New Computer Lab for Denham Town Primary Students courtesy of GK Franchisee Jeffrey Reid and JPSCo
On Thursday February 3, 2011, Jeffrey Reid owner of three Golden Krust restaurants in the Bronx officially opened a new homework center at his alma mater Denham Town Primary School in Jamaica which he equipped and furnished in a joint effort with the Jamaica Public Service Company. The project cost approximately J$8 million dollars to complete.

As a past student of Denham Town Primary School, Jeffrey Reid had a vision for the West Kingston school to provide a state of the art facility for students and teachers alike to have access to computers to aid learning and provide hope for tomorrow's leaders. The project took approximately two years to complete and thanks to the involvement of the JPSCo., is now fully air-conditioned with 23 new computers, cubicles and a lifetime's supply of free electricity made possible by the installation of a separate meter.

Prime Minister Bruce Golding and Education Minister Andrew Holness along with a host of other political, education and business leaders attended the grand opening ceremony and congratulated the philanthropists for their investment in the advancement of the community of Denham Town. In his address, Prime Minister Golding said although the communities that surround downtown Kingston are poor, downtown is not poor, so what we need to do is build partnership among businesses.

Minister of Education Andrew Holness said the computers are symbolic of advancement among children in Jamaica. He charged the teachers not to just cherish the computers but to give the students access so they can broaden their horizons and increase their knowledge.

Golden Krust President & CEO Lowell Hawthorne, his wife Lorna and several Golden Krust franchisees attended the function to lend support to Jeffrey Reid and the Denham Town Primary family. Mr. Hawthorne pledged an additional four computers to add to the school's resources.
