On May 5, 2010, Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill, the nation's largest and fastest growing Caribbean franchise within the United States handed over dozens of cartons filled with food supplies collected within its stores to assist in Haiti's earthquake relief efforts to Consul General of Haiti Mr. Felix Augustin, at its manufacturing plant located at 3958 Park Ave, Bronx, NY.
Consul General Augustin, lauded Golden Krust for its efforts to continue to reach out to the people of Haiti who are still suffering from the effects of the catastrophic earthquake that shook that nation's capital on January 12th. He further added that he was proud of Golden Krust's heart for the Caribbean brotherhood and said the company is a shining example of generosity, resilience and community spirit.
In his remarks, President and CEO of Golden Krust - Lowell Hawthorne said this is only the beginning of the assistance that his company's intends to offer towards the relief effort. Mr. Hawthorne announced that he and a delegation from his franchise chain are planning to visit the island of Haiti in August to assist in re-building a school on the island. Consul General Augustin pledged the support of the Haitian Govt. to assist Golden Krust's efforts to re-build, noting that the country needs all the help it can receive at this time as classes are being held in make-shift tents for those children that have returned to school.
Golden Krust launched a can drive within its stores during the months of February and March just a few weeks after the catastrophic event. Customers donated cans of food, water, baby formula and general food supplies. All the food collected will be shipped directly to the island and will be distributed by the Methodist Conference of Churches in Haiti.
